ALL YOUR HEALTH CARE QUESTIONS

WHAT HAPPENS DURING A NATUROPATHY CONSULTATION?

A naturopathy consultation runs for 60-90 minutes depending how complex your case is. In this time, we will explore your main complaint as well as other body systems to get an overall picture of your health. This includes your medical history, lifestyle factors such as sleep and stress levels, and lastly- a good look into your diet. To finish off, some physical assessments may be conducted such as tongue, nail and iris analysis and any other assessments relevant to your presentation.

Remedial Massage VS Myotherapy

Remedial Massage

  • Objective: Remedial massage primarily focuses on addressing soft tissue issues, such as muscle tension, pain, and injury recovery. It is often used to relieve symptoms related to specific musculoskeletal problems.

  • Techniques: It involves a range of techniques including deep tissue massage, trigger point therapy, and myofascial release. The therapist may use various strokes and pressures to target problem areas and improve blood flow, reduce muscle tension, and promote healing.

  • Approach: Remedial massage tends to be more general in its approach, aiming to address the specific symptoms and conditions presented by the client.

Myotherapy

  • Objective: Myotherapy is a more specialized field that focuses on the assessment, treatment, and management of musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction. It aims to identify and address the underlying causes of musculoskeletal issues, rather than just treating the symptoms.

  • Techniques: Myotherapy incorporates a variety of techniques, including deep tissue massage, myofascial cupping, dry needling, stretching, and corrective exercises. It may also involve the use of techniques to release muscle knots (trigger points) and improve joint function.

  • Approach: Myotherapy often includes a more comprehensive assessment of the client’s posture, movement patterns, and lifestyle factors. It emphasizes a holistic approach to treatment, incorporating both manual therapy and exercise prescription to address the root causes of pain and dysfunction.

In summary, while both disciplines work on musculoskeletal issues, remedial massage tends to focus on relieving pain and tension through various massage techniques, whereas myotherapy provides a more thorough assessment and integrates multiple treatment methods, including manual therapy and exercise, to address underlying causes of musculoskeletal problems.
